Old Mutual in partnership with Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU)on Thursday donated 15,000 surgical masks to the Ministry of Basic Education. Among the distinguished guests at the handover ceremony were Honourable Minister of Basic Education Mr. Fidelis Molao, President of BOSETU Mr. Winston Radikolo, Board Chair of Old Mutual Life Insurance Company Ms. Tumi Mbaakanyi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Short-Term Insurance Company Ms. Kushatha Moswela and the BOSETU leadership team. The Managing Director of Old Mutual Life Insurance Mr. Daniel Matlhagela was the master of ceremonies at the event.

Speaking at the event Ms. Kushatha Moswela, Managing Director of Old Mutual Short-Term Insurance said the donation came about as Old Mutual recognized the wonderful work that BOSETU has done over the years for educators across the spectrum. In her address, Ms. Moswela said that during this unprecedented time in our lifetimes, there is no doubt that our educators are indeed at the frontline of the fight against Covid-19.“On an almost daily basis, educators are charged with not only delivering crucial skills and knowledge to our future generations of leaders but that they are also custodians of the responsibility of ensuring the health and wellness of our learners”, she said.

In his speech, Honorable Minister of Basic Education, Mr. Fidelis Molao stated that the donation will go a long way in mitigating the adverse impact of the pandemic. According to Minister Fidelis Molao, the collaboration of Old Mutual and BOSETU will ensure that teachers and learners have access to masks, particularly those who come from disadvantaged areas. The Minister commended the efforts of Old Mutual Botswana for stepping up and reaching out to assist the education sector with surgical masks. He commended the organization for previous work they have done like donating shoes to primary school students, computers and a scholarship for a student who recently completed their Form 5 at one of the local private institution.

In closing the handover event, Board Chair of Old Mutual Life Insurance Company Ms. Tumi Mbaakanyi said “As an organisation, we want to reassure you of our commitment and support for Botswana and her people as we transverse this uncertain period”

Old Mutual Botswana has to date donated over 28 000 surgical masks to the public sector.
