Empowering young people to achieve financial well-being
As one of the leading financial services providers in Botswana, Old Mutual understands the importance of financial literacy and the role it plays in building a financially stable and resilient society. That's why we actively support initiatives like Global Money Week, which aims to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviours necessary to make sound financial decisions and achieve financial well-being.
Global Money Week is an annual international event that promotes financial education and awareness among young people around the world. During this week, which usually takes place in March, various activities are organized by schools, NGOs, and financial institutions to help children and youth learn about money, saving, budgeting, and investing.
Old Mutual is a proud supporter of Global Money Week and has been actively involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting financial literacy under our On the money program. The On the Money Programme is a financial education initiative created to teach Batswana how to best manage their finances. The programme is based on the behaviours of the Big Five animals. The unique characteristics of the Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo, as found in nature, have been distilled to teach us how to manage our personal and family finances.
Old Mutual has also launched financial education content on its social media pages which provides a wealth of information and resources on personal finance, including budgeting, debt management, saving, investing, and retirement planning. The content is designed to help them develop good financial habits from an early age.
In addition to these initiatives, Old Mutual is also committed to promoting financial literacy and inclusion through its community outreach programs. The company has partnered with Financial education facilitators to provide financial education and support to communities, helping them to access financial products and services and improve their financial well-being.
The importance of financial literacy cannot be overstated, especially in today's complex and rapidly changing financial landscape. With the increasing availability of financial products and services, young people need to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their finances.
By supporting initiatives like Global Money Week and investing in financial education programs, Old Mutual is helping to create a generation of financially literate and responsible young people who are better equipped to navigate the financial challenges of life and achieve their financial goals.
Old Mutual's support of Global Money Week underscores the importance of financial literacy and the need to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviours necessary to achieve financial well-being and resilience. By working together with our partners and stakeholders, we can build a financially inclusive and sustainable society that benefits us all.
